If you read the articles that I write, then you know that one of my favorite things, is doing things that other people say can't be done, with just a little originality you can achieve all of your goals with your car, oh and let's not forget time, it will take time to complete any project that you start on your old car.

Now that I have that out of the way, I'm free to discuss E85 ethanol, and how it of great benefit to you and your classic car, this is one of those subjects that some people get just a little touchy on, they'll say things like, E85 can't be used on an old car, and all I have to say about that, is why not.

The new cars have a fuel system that pumps fuel to and injection system, in most cars these days, and the reason that E85 is not being used in more new cars is that same reason that all the nay Sayers are saying that it can't be used in classic cars , and that reason is that alcohol eats any rubber components that it comes in contact with.

With that said, you could pump your fuel by some other means then rubber lines, they burn alcohol on the race track all the time, and you don't see those cars dumping fuel all over the track, so it stands to reason that you could pump your fuel by the same means that they do, use Teflon lined braided steel hose to pump your fuel, and for a pump that doesn't have any rubber components you could contact Jegs and ask them.

Then all you need to decide, is how are you going to get that air and fuel mixture in to your engine, are you a traditional type of person, and it will be a carburetor for your car, get a hold of Demon carburetion, or Holley and ask them for an alcohol carburetor, I'm sure that they would be more then willing to help you out, if it will be an injection system on your car, you can just order that from Holley also, or have an OEM style setup converted to alcohol, see there you go, that really is all there is to it, it is possible, and I would recommend it if you can afford it, it will get easier as time goes on, and one of the carburetion companies will produce a kit, but until then this is your answer.
